>Improvisation

>Whenever I give a talk – even just a 30-second elevator speech – folks ask me how I got so comfortable with public speaking. They ask if I can recommend a class in public speaking, or if they should join Toastmasters.

What I tell them is that improvisation classes are what did it for me. Contact improv and InterPlay are my favorite forms, but just about any kind of improvisation will do the trick by helping you:

  • get you out of your head and into your body
  • switch from work mode into play mode
  • free up your voice
  • stop worrying about being “right” or “perfect” or “good enough”

So, now I’m thinking about designing an improvisation class specifically for businesspeople &/or social change activists who want to improve their confidence and their speaking & presentation skills.
