I’m totally in love with cartoonist Lynda Barry.  She posts the syllabus and homework exercises for her university classes online so anyone can follow along. The piece below was done following the assignment about halfway down this page.

Barry’s exercises are always extremely specific, down to the type of pen and notebook she asks students to use. This one involved several timed iterations of the same drawing on top of the one before, using a different specific colored pencil each time, with black ink last. TOTALLY not how I would ever approach a drawing, but I kind of like the layered colors especially on the girl; as usual I mangled the foliage.
